Can a computer shop sell a piece of software that they get for free to the customer? Comodo.com?

Comodo is a good example. It's a great firewall and antivirus that's free. Can it be sold? They said it was for the install though.

Anyone can sell you services to install free software anytime.

This for example is how Apache web server team makes any money at all. The Apache web server software is FREE. The support for it, is what costs money.

So, they didn't actually charge you for the software, they just charged you to install the software for you... sure they can do that.

They can probably also sell the software itself, as long as it is not marked otherwise, such as ''Not For Resale''. People sell shareware and freeware, and even public domain software all the time, as long as the author of the software has not otherwise disallowed it.
