Should my computer be connected to the Internet while Webroot Spysweeper w/antivirus is running a sc

Have a virus issue which the software has found...Scan is still taking 7 + hours thus far...however it is still going and seemingly going ok.

Should I have comouter connected to the Internet while this scan is happening? Does this make a difference...can it slow the scan down?

Thanks,

Melon

If the virus is running in live memory and has not been killed yet, it may be accessing the internet, trying to put itself back. this can slow down the system.

When ever you think you have an infection, it is best to boot to safe mode and run the scan from there. The virus will not be able to load, and the scan will run fast and kill it.
First of all if it's 7 hrs. + there is really something wrong. You shouldn't be using your computer during this time. Actually, I suggest you even boot to Safemode (Make sure to download all the updates for Spysweeper before you boot to Safemode):

1. Restart your computer.

2. At the first/second black screen, start tapping F8 like once every second.

3. You will get a prompt for Windows boot mode. Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move up to Safe Mode, and press enter.

4. Login and scan with SpySweeper, and DONT USE THE COMPUTER.

Safemode is.. well. safemode. It causes your computer to run like no processes, no graphics card drivers, or anything. (Diagnostic mode)

I also suggest you download a free anti-virus as SpySweeper Anti-virus isn't really good. www.freeav.com
