Problem with computer shutting down...?

A friend of mine has a computer that was built by someone who supposedly knew what he was doing...The computer will freeze/shutdown randomly, but it seems to do it more so when running antivirus software and other processes that take a lot of juice to run...

The last message came up on a blue screen...''Aproblem has been detected...windowns has been shut down to prevent damage. Problem caused by ntfs.sys....Page_fault_in_nonpagedarea.''

Has anyone seen this problem and what can he do to fix it...it has been going on since he got the computer and is rather annoying...he cant even get through a mcafee virus scan without it shutting down.

The person who built it probably gave it the wrong heatsink which could overheat the processor and shut it down. Check to see what model heatsink he has and see if its compliant with the processor. Or check if the fan on the heatsink is working.

The computer more than likely has a virus.

Your friend will need to reinstall windows, using fdisk to completely clean up the problem.
it could be a RAM issue, how much ram is in the thing? you want at least 256mb for xp.
If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
