What are the best anti-virus software for a dial-up connection?

I have a computer with Windows XP operating system, it is a dial-up connection. I have always had Norton Anti-virus. I have always downloaded it online directly, never using a cd but now for the Norton 2008 version I could not complete the download, and so when I contacted the company they told me they would send me a new installation cd instead. Now I have been reading a lot of customer reviews regarding the Norton Antivirus 2008 version and it does not sound good at all. I want to change to another product. Please tell me what is the best for a dial-up connection. One that will not slow my computer down like people have been saying about the Norton Anti-Virus?

Your connection speed has no bearing on what AV software you use. I gave Norton a toss a couple of years ago. The product that I favor now is BitDefender.

I like to use a program called Zone Alarm. It's relevantly cheap and does the job well. It also has no side programs like Norton and Mcafee that are always popping up and slowing down your computer. As far as dial-up goes there is probably no program that goes well with it simply because it is very slow and your anti-virus program needs to constantly update itself. I strongly recommend DSL. It's not that much more a month and it will make a world of difference for you.
I have used Avira's AntiVir for many years. You can download it free at http://www.free-av.com -- it is much smaller than a program like Norton, the updates are smaller, and it doesn't bog down your system.
