Ok. Check this out...my computer is like kinda old...well about 8 years old and has basically very little virtual memory..and is infected with spyware/viruses. I tried to download some new antivirus/spyware software from online but due to low memory..I can't even download anything. And today my computer said "it was infected with spyware..then is shut off...when i tried to turn it back on...It said "error loading system" and won't go any further than that..It's really jacked up...So what i was thinking was could i just reinstall windows on to it and get rid of all my information and viruses, etc. or do I need to get a new hard drive..which is what I was planning on doing tomorrow..let me know before i go blowing my money away....PLEASE don't respond unless this is something that u know will work...everyone has an opinion..just need to have on that applies to this particular situation..sorry to sound rude...but PLEASE HELP!!!!

Reinstalling your operating system will indeed eliminate the virus/spyware problem. And seeing as the average life-span for a hard drive is about 5 years, you are probably wise in seeking a replacement drive. There is a good chance that an 8-year-old hard drive is on the brink of dying anyway. A word of advice: if you are on a Window 98 or 2000 machine, they can not recognize hard drives over 137GB in capacity. If I were you I would buy an 80GB drive. They can be had for $40.
